'Man Overboard' CD - What The Critics Are Saying

Ian Hunter's new album, Man Overboard, was issued on 21 July 2009 by New West Records. This 11-song set is a stunning follow up to the overwhelmingly critically acclaimed Shrunken Heads album from 2007. Man Overboard was produced by Andy York (veteran guitarist for John Mellencamp) and Ian Hunter and features a backing band of superstar talent comprised of Steve Holley on drums and percussion (Wings, Joe Cocker), Paul Page on bass (Dion), Jack Petruzzelli on electric guitar (Rufus Wainwright, Joan Osbourne), James Mastro on electric guitar (Patti Smith, John Cale), Andy Burton on piano and organ (The Db's) and Producer Andy York on guitar and backing vocals.

'His muse is as vital as ever. Artists like Jeff Tweedy, Alejandro Escovedo and Joe Strummer have covered Hunter’s songs, and David Bowie worshiped him. Man Overboard explains why.'
    - Chicago Tribune

'Man Overboard ranks as one of his very best, a strong showing from a man with a deep understanding of humanity's triumphs and foibles. Terrifically smart but entirely unpretentious.'
    - Detroit Free Press

'Man Overboard grows deeper with each listen. It may be one of the best records he’s ever made.'
    - Crawdaddy

'Hunter’s barbed-wire wit, intelligent songwriting and self-deprecating sentimentality are here in abundance. A-'
    - The Boston Herald

'On Man Overboard, Ian Hunter turns in an 11-song set that is astonishingly vital and puts to shame many toilers half his age. With that sandpapered voice and an ability to bend a melody to its own peculiar will, Hunter is as sharp and cussed as ever.'
    - The Sunday Times

'Man Overboard is Hunter at his best. He sounds like a man rejuvenated-with a familiar, yet fresh sense of musical risk-taking. The song has always been the key for Hunter, and this record says that it will continue to be so for some time.'
    - Elmore Magazine

'Ian Hunter is on a protracted winning streak that both belies his age and finds him making full use of his experience. Hunter’s new album, Man Overboard, finds him revisiting that successful formula.'
    - The New Yorker

'Man Overboard is the third in a stunning 21st-century trilogy, and confirms that Ian Hunter is on the hottest songwriting streak of his storied career.'
