Post What are you watching
I didn't see this so thread so I guess it dropped off. I am starting another one. I am reprinting my review of a DVD I bought from another source. Since it is my review I hope it is O.K.

I got the Steve Hackett Live Tokyo Tapes DVD I ordered in the mail yesterday. In case you don't know Steve was the guitarist for Genesis during the Peter Gabriel/early Phil Collins era. With Steve is old staple at drums, Chester Thompson. Rounding out the band is John Wetton on bass and most lead vocals (Asia, King Crimson), Ian McDonald on flute, sax, keyboards, guitar (King Crimson, Foreigner) and Julian Colbeck on keyboards (????????).

As expected there are Genesis songs on this DVD and it starts out with a stellar version of Watcher Of The Skies. They also play Firth Of Fifth, Horizons, In That Quiet Earth, Los Endos, and I Know What I Like. There is a really good accoustic version of Asias Heat Of The Moment. They even get to work in an awesome version of King Crimsons Court Of The Crimson King written by McDonald.

This is an excellent DVD. The music is great and visuals equally as great. Of course you have to be a little bit (and only a little) of a prog rock fan to like this.

Andy, you are a Genesis fan so you may already have this but if you don't I recommend this for your collection.

Set List

Watcher Of The Skies
Riding The Colossus
Firth Of Fifth
Battlelines
Camino Royal
The Court Of The Crimson King
Horizons
Walking Away From Rainbows
Heat Of The Moment
In That Quiet Earth
Vampire With A Healthy Appetite
I Talk To The Wind
Shadow Of The Hierophant
Los Endos
Black Light
The Steppes
I Know What I Like

Wetton is coming to place near me this april, and is playing Asia, UK, and Crimson tunes. I haven't seen him since the mid 70's and can't decide wether to go or not. Has anybody seen him live in the last 30 or so years?

No, but I'd really love to see him perform. It would be great if he and David Cross got together. Cross is still as wild as he was in Crimson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-68YIWEfOX4

Try looking in the General Discussion section

We didn't have problems like this when you took your break from the forum

Well, it's done then. It's time to announce the King Crimson, circa 1972, reunion tour! I will be there.

I definately like the set list. When I saw Hackett many years ago in GTR, he played a couple of Genesis tunes, including a stunning version of Horizons.

What I forgot to mention was the song Black Light is an accoustic number that is a collection of little snippets of Genesis songs. Off the top of my head I remember Blood On The Rooftop as one of them. Cocoon Cocoon was another.

I was just watching Sky Arts - Duran Duran were being interviewed and then playing live, I was never into them but I was quite impressed when they played live. :D

CSI - still can't get into the Laurence Fishbourne style of the show. Maybe Grissom leaving should have been the end of it and move venue to another city with new cast.

also on Sky Arts - Eric Clapton - Sessions.

This is a film made of Eric doing Robert Johnson songs.

I find it hard to understand just how anyone who really understands and knows about RJ can play (and willingly do so) his songs and so fairly wreck them - taking out all the soul.

Most of the "sessions" were done with a band and all they did was play the old "chug a lug" backing - boring. - totally misses where RJ was going.

Improves somewhat (actually quite a lot) when Eric played acoustic with another bloke playing slide. The instrumentation was more like it (mind you it took 2 of them to do so), although they missed the RJ style of playing on the edge. Shame about Eric's singing.
