True Story :

I used to get into the kennel with our dog 'ruffy' as a kid and share winalot biscuits with him - being a bit of a git I used to give the 'ruffy' the black ones [I didn't like them] and keep the yellow ones [my favourites] to myself - if you ever find me chasing cars / biting post men / humping folks legs you now know why...

Watching Muse from the Reading Festival on BBC3 and the Beeb apologized for the poor sound quality.............Didn't they realise it was Muse playing?

When I got home from work the other night I made the mistake of doing a few chores. A mistake because when I sat down eventually and switched the TV on I caught the second half of a repeated 'Songbook' from the UK featuring one of my favourite songwriters of all time, Ray Davies. I so wished I had caught it all (although I've just noticed excerpts on Youtube).

It's the first time I've seen Ray speak for any length of time and pretty much confirmed what I thought he would be like - an enigmatic mixture of over-confidence and insecurity, quirkiness and down-to-earth - very much a fractured genius.

I saw that show and it's excellent. I wish Ray would tour like that. Songs and stories.

He did in his own enigmatic way!!

About fifteen years ago he toured solo with one or two musicians supporting. I saw the show in Sydney. It was shortly after his book 'X-Ray'. which is semi-autobiographical. There was a CD released of the show called 'The Storyteller' which I have and I think is pretty hard to get now. It was a very intimate and enjoyable concert.

The last couple of Ray's UK gigs I saw were the stongs and stories stuff. Both acoustic first set; full band second set.
Love to see a Kinks reunion, but I don't think it'll ever happen.

Tonight I watched a bunch of overpaid overrated English footballers underperform. Felt sorry for the Welsh. Robbie Earnshaw would have buried that 99 times out of 100. Don't fancy England's chances in Euro 2012. England had decent spells either side of half-time, but Wales were easily the better side in the second half.

I must start browsing over the TV guides   When I got home tonight and eventually switched the TV on I caught the episode of the 'Songbook' TV series featuring Part 2 of Ray Davies (I only missed the first five minutes this time :) ) It is the first time I have seen this show dedicate two shows to one songwriter.

Ray seemed a little bit more relaxed (not too much) as the show had progressed. A couple of highlights were a great version of the seldom heard and fantastic 'Shangri-La' and an interesting revelation that the middle bridge on 'Working Man's Cafe' recounts a real life event where Ray was getting in contact with Dave Davies for the first time in a long while down in Exeter where Dave was living at the time, because Ray was travelling through the area.

I just saw an ad for Ray coming to Boston later this fall. And in the picture he's holding an acoustic guitar. This could be my wish fulfilled!

Not very sporting to shoot the same person twice.
