Electrified: the guitar revolution
Nice history of the electric guitar. I only saw bits of this but I definately want to see the entire show.

Love and other drugs.
While watchiing this film I heard some slide guitar that sounded vaguely familiar. It turned out to be a Peter Green Fleetwood Mac song "showbiz blues" from the "then play on" album. I was quite surprised to hear this song at all, nevermind in a new movie.

You'll enjoy it G. One thing I remember is that it's been part of "guitar mythology" that Les Paul introduced the first solid body guitar in the late 40's. But the Smithsonian Institute, who produced the documentary found one in their own collection 10 years older than Les Paul's!

wasn't there a Rickenbacker called "the Frying pan" or something, before Les Paul produced his? Like a lot of things I think that if you dig deep you will find several claims to be theh first - pre Les Paul, but I think what mad the difference with Les was that he played it to its' "new" capabilities and promoted it as such. This compares with earlier versions which were trying to capture a louder sound for either a Hawaiian guitar or even a banjo.

I always thought Jimmy Page invented the solid body guitar. Some bloke in a pub told me. I think he was from San Francisco!

He didn't invent it, he just set the standard on how one's to be played.
