Just booked flights to the USA to see Jason & The Scorchers on New Years Eve in Nashville - seemed a better option that the usual lock in at the local pub on New Years Eve.
Also seeing them a week later in Raleigh before heading home.

Will be joined at the Raleigh gig by former message board member 'Twice Shy' - also fitting in a trip to New Orleans, the home of Southern Comfort, my favourite spirit

Seeing Nick Gilder and Sweeney Todd in a bar for a tenner this weekend... have no idea what to expect... how bad can it be?

You are willing to go see him for a tenner? I would have held out - they would have given in and paid you twenty.

I once saw Nick Gilder when he was the opener for Ian Hunter at the Berkeley Community Theater. I'm pretty sure it was durnig Ian's tour promoting the first solo album. I'll have to check my ticket.

I'll give it a chance... the first Sweeney Todd album was a local CanCon staple in 1975... and 'Roxy Roller' is a glam classic... even if it did come out 3 years after the fact. 8)

It also figured prominently in the Runaways film last year.

If it was Gilder solo / playing 'Hot Child In The City', that would have been '79 / Schizo tour.

Peter Murphy is in town next week supporting his strong new album "ninth". I'm taking my daughter, whose only exposure to him is the Bauhaus song "bela lugosi's dead". Should be an interesting night.

A fun few days ahead, The Damned on Saturday with Mr McKenzie & possibly Mr & Mrs TS then Zappa Plays Zappa on Tuesday, apparently Frank is appearing from beyond the grave thanks to some amazing technology, even better it's using previously unreleased footage.
The following Saturday it's Still Vintage in Glasgow with JC's son on drums & probably Willie on Kazoo somewhere in the background

Quietdrive will have a show and CD release party at the Varisty Theater in Minneapolis, MN, on December 28. I've seen these guys a couple of times and they are very talented and energetic. I recommend this show if you're in the area. Wish I could be there.

I would appreciate reviews of all the above shows mentioned. And please tell the UK Subs it's been quite a while since they played Boston!

I didn't review the Gilder / Sweeney Todd show because I was so disgusted at my bad judgement... it was fairly excruciating.

This was your classic example of a washed-up weenie still treading the boards for no apparent good reason. The band was some pick-up outfit from Vancouver... no original members besides NG... there was a 10-minute (!!) drum solo, FFS... they did a cover of 'Highway Star' (??)... and 'Hot Child In The City' was so obviously the high point of the show that they thought they'd better play it twice (!?). Then there was the sad spectacle of Nick wandering around the room afterward, almost begging people to have their picture taken with him.

This guy shouldn't need to do this... he has some big writing credits from the 80s... 'The Warrior' and 'Rated X' to name just a couple... and I believe 'HCITC' was the biggest selling single for Chrysalis Records (sorry, Ian).

There but for the grace etc etc...
