Very sad news indeed. He will be greatly missed.

Just in the last few months I have been renewing my appreciation of Bruce Springsteen's music, especially the earlier stuff, through 'The Promise' (how he didn't release another album before 'The River' or include some of those amazing songs on that album is unbelievable) and the 'Live In Hyde Park' blue-ray.

And only just last week I ordered 'The Collection 1973-1984' CD box set from Amazon.uk which is due any day now. It contains eight CD's covering his first seven albums for just 12 English pounds or about $18.50 Australian. Amazing music at an amazing price. The experience of listening to those CD's later this week will be tinged with sadness now, and even more appreciation than I would have had in the first place.

His sound was instantly recognizable from the first note he played.

I was lucky enough to see him several times with Springsteen, but also once in a small venue with his band The Red Bank Rockers. He tore the paper off the walls.

RIP Big Man.

Clarence Clemons' top five non-Springsteen performances.

Ian Hunter's All of the Good Ones Are Taken is on the list:
