 Re: obituaries
Moogy Klingman died Tuesday, November 15, after a battle with cancer. He was supposed to be on the Utopia reunion tour which is finishing up the last few dates in the New York area. Rundgren announced it at the Wednesday night concert in New Jersey. He was 61. I was looking forward to hearing Moogy at the Akron show when I bought the tickets several months ago, but just prior to the start of the tour it was determined his health would not allow touring. I saw him several times with Rundgren in the 70s and have very fond memories. RIP Moogy. Here is a link to a story in Spinner: http://www.spinner.com/2011/11/16/mark- ... rdist-dies

 Re: obituaries
The message below was posted on the Elvis Costello Facebook page last Friday.
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Ross MacManus at the age of 84. He had a rich and remarkable life. Ross passed peacefully after a long illness. He was surrounded by love at the end. The family are deeply grateful for the care and kindness he received from the doctors and nursing staff and for the kindness and support of their friends.
Very sad news and my condolences to the family. Apart from being his father it has been well documented about the influence and inspiration Ross MacManus' musical career had on that of his son.
The announcement also explains a few cancelled dates and tours over recent months due to an illness in the family.

 Re: obituaries
Hubert Sumlin died today.
His nifty guitar riffs were fundamental to some of the best Howlin' Wolf records as well as being a blues act in his own right. I saw him just a few years ago at the Borderline and he raised the roof although he seemed a bit frail then. He had a hell of a lot of blues power in his day.
RIP Hubert
G

 Re: obituaries
Yeah, this is a loss. That man could play guitar. At least his music lives on.

 Re: obituaries
The death of Sumlin is the loss of yet another blues great. We lost many of the legends years ago and now we are losing the legends who played with those legends. I saw Sumlin at a blues festival many years ago. I really enjoyed the show back then but my memories of that show and other blues giants mean much more to me now. RIP Hubert and thanks for the blues.

 Re: obituaries
Hubert was a great in his time. After the Wolf died, he carried on in the "Wolfgang", basically Howllin' Wolf's band minus the Wolf. They would play a lot in Boston and do 2 or 3 night runs in little clubs. I have great memories of dragging my friends to see them and hanging with the band in the club. They were very accesible back then. Hubert told me some great stories about growing up with James Cotton and travelling with him when they were young. His playing could be spotty, hot one night and just not with it another, but he sounded like no-one else. I'm goping to go play Wolf's "spoonful" now, one of the best examples of Hubert's talent.
