 Re: obituaries
Geoffrey Hughes died today after a two year fight with prostrate cancer - probably best remembered as lovable rogue/ dustman Eddie Yates in Corrie during its heyday, he also played amongst others Twiggy in the Royle Family and Vernon in Heartbeat as well as providing the voice of Paul McCartney in The Yellow Submarine.

 Re: obituaries
Darryl Cotton, former lead singer of late 60's / 70's Australian band Zoot has died from liver cancer at 62 years of age after only being diagnosed just two months ago. Zoot was the band that also launched the careers of Rick Springfield and Beeb Birtles (Little River Band). After Zoot split up Darryl spent most of the seventies in Los Angeles mainly as a songwriter for many other artists and at one stage was in a band with pop songwriters / performers Boyce & Hart. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainme ... 6436417718

Far too young.R.I.P. Marvin Hamlisch Particularly liked his efforts when the audience asked him to play in a style that they chose. This clip isn't it but nevertheless here it is

 Re: obituaries
RIP Neil Armstrong. One of the most iconic figures of our generation and featured front and centre in one of those "I remember where I was when I saw / heard the news" moments. In my case I was in primary school and the teachers had small black and white televisions set up in the class room so we could watch one of our most historical moments, http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/wo ... 6458176249

 Re: obituaries
Hal David, aged 91.
The team of Bacharach/David was simply immense. I remember hearing Elvis Costello doing 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' on the Stiffs Live album and being floored by the depth of emotion that such a seemingly simple song expressed. One of my all-time favorite bands, Love, covered a Bacharach/David song as their first single ('My Little Red Book') and another fave (The Stranglers), recorded a version of 'Walk On By'.
Great songs are great songs, no matter who records them, and Hal David was responsible for a boatload of them.

 Re: obituaries
Sadly, no one has yet mentioned Max Bygraves. Who can forget that classic: 'I'm a blue toothbrush, you're a pink toothbrush, will you marry me' (oops, sorry no wheels, didn't page down)
