 Re: Recent Gigs
It must now be apparent why I didn't fare too well in debate class.

The Kinks, or rather one original Kink (the drummer) and three latterday Kinks, at the Cellars, Southsea. More of a tribute band, not very Kinky, but good musicians. Had the whole place singing along.

 Re: Recent Gigs
£16 a song is what venues are charging nowadays, well that is the price if you go to a gig where there are 3 acts on,you want to see one but dont think theyll be the first act on, walk in and said act is just introducing their next number which turns out to be their last.Yep, thats what happened tonight for Rachel Harrington. We didnt think she'd be on first so went in a bit late, as you do for so called support acts.Went to the bar after her gig and chatted to her when she was selling her cds.She knew who we were, almost,Hi John and Wally......she said, close, she cant say Willie for some reason. For the second act we stayed at the bar.We were going to go up to see the third act but alcohol tasted nice so we stayed at the bar until a few songs into their set. There was a monitor where you could watch the show but we decided they were shite so headed back to the bar. After their set Rachel and the other acts went back to the stalls to sell their merchandise again.Ms Harrington must have felt sorry for us as she gave us both a copy of her brilliant debut cd The Bootleggers Daughter free of charge. We both already have it as she knows, but she gave us them anyway. We went on a pub crawl after that and Wally is fighting fit and is ready for the New York shows.

 Re: Recent Gigs
Did a similar thing in the 70's when we went to see the Pretty Things at Twickenham College Of Technology (now called a "university".
The support were Supertramp who were supposed to be good - but were actually boring, so we went to the bar and stayed there until sufficient time had gone by for Supertramp to finish and the equipment to get swapped around etc.
How were we supposed to know that stages were rigged up in 2 separate halls? So we missed their first few songs.
Someone (can't remember who just at the moment), once sang Once Bitten Twice Shy and from then onwards, you will always find me, slightly anxiously in the place before the expected time...just to be sure.

 Re: Recent Gigs
it may have been £16 a song...........but it was a darn fine song thoroughly enjoyed it anyway
it was good to get back out and about again........first time in about a month got a few more planned for the next couple of weeks: the counterfeit clash (who are playing a few hundred yards from my house) next saturday and nazareth the following saturday
think we will go early
I once did the opposite in the 80s at a hunter/ronson gig in manchester it said doors open 6pm so I was queuing from about 5, when the doors openened I was still the only one in the queue..................5 hours later i was still the only one on the premises it was a nightclub open till 4am and the support act didnt start till about 12 with hunter/ronson taking the stage at 2am (there were about 6 or 7 bars in the club which kept me occupied...even if the gig was a bit hazy)
oor wally

 Re: Recent Gigs
Hey Willie - glad you are up and around the gigs again.
Back in about 1971 (ish) I drove flat out from a weeks holiday in Isle Of White on a Saturday morning to be able to then get to Hyde PArk for the afternoon Hyde Park gig starring Grand Funk Railroad. On route home I remember going past one of those old (John Steed of Avengers) British racing green vintage Bentleys and thinking that was unusual.
Got to the park and there were a load more Bentleys odf all shapes. What are these doing here and how is the band going to fit in? - I thought.
I had the wrong week - that was Bentleyconvention weeek - GFR were the following week.
as an aside - I went the following week , saw half their set and thought it was crap. I remember drin=ving away from Marble Arch up the Edgeware Road with the windows opening and we coukld hear the Stars And Stripes being played as they ended their act.
