The Jack Bruce Big Blues Band at The Stables, Wavendon. ( where Ian played a couple of years ago)

Rick - you would have loved it.

Jack played a one hour set , then went away for an interval, then came back for another hour and ten minutes.

He has some great players with him and I would describe the style as the jazzy side of blues (as compared to the bluesy side of jazz). There was a bit too much of the jazz side in the first set, in which he played 2 Cream songs. The second set though was mostly Cream songs with Theme From An Imaginary Western thrown in and maybe something else.
Improvisations all night long, throughout most songs in the way Cream would have done, but with (as I said) a more jazzy style - backing band included drummer, keyboards/piano player, electric (one song acoustic) guitar, tenor sax, trumpet and trombone players. Also an electric bass player for when Jack played piano - they both played bass on Sunshine Of Your Love. When playing bass, Jack played a fretless electric. As I said all the band were good, but I will single out the guitarist and the drummer, who gave us a 6 minute solo - the like of which could not be bettered, but I have seen enough drum solos 40 years ago to last me till I die.
Jack seemed to enjoy himself - as he told the band after one improvisation - "thanks guys I enjoyed that" -nice touch to his band members.
Concert Live were recording the evening and it should be available in about a week.

Once again I find myself on the wrong side of the Atlantic. Where will it be available? Radio?

Ken Dodd & His Diddy Men at The Cross Keys in Skipton. Actually it was RTM in his band doing a good selection of covers, over two long & enjoyable sets, a few less obvious ones including Teenagers etc by My Chemical Romance. One of the better bands of this sort I've seen of late & our diminutive friend is actualy quite a good guitarist.

 watch out Billy O

Post Re: Recent Gigs
Had an enjoyable night on Friday when I went to see Nick Lowe at the Forum in Melbourne. Only bought my tickets at a heavily discounted price at midnight the night before and picked up front row dead centre right in front of Nick. If I had taken any pictures or video they would have been excellent - but I don't at concerts and I didn't this time either.

There were about five hundred people in the audience (the back half of the theatre was curtained off) and it was his second night at the venue. Great band, great music, he's also pretty good at the stage patter between some of the songs. Geraint Watkins was interesting to listen to and watch on the keyboards (but unfortunately in a lot of the songs he was a bit subdued in the sound mix).

Some of the highlights were a swinging version of 'Cruel To Be Kind' and an amazing stripped down and slow version of 'What's So Funny ..." - see link of similar performance below. A couple of interesting covers including "Alison' and what I thought was the Sam Cooke song 'Rome Wasn't Built In A Day' - it did sound very similar to Sam's song but was maybe another song with the same title. Which reminds me, as Nick gets older he seems to be channeling the phrasing of a cross between Sam Cooke and Nat King Cole in his singing style on some of the slower numbers - not a bad thing. Overall he was certainly well worth seeing.

Apart from 'What's So Funny..' also attached is a great version of 'I Knew The Bride" and one of his new songs "I Read A Lot" which may have been dedicated to Mick McKenzie :) :)

Great show by King Mob tonight at Islington Academy 2,and some new songs were featured, one of which featured Kyassor's favourite young lady,Stella,in the title.I hope for their sakes they haven't been toying with her affections while he's away..............

Last minute invite to Jonny Lang at The Coach House. Hadn't listened to him since he 1st came out. A little too dramatic for me at times but the boy sure can play. He went off into a little of a jazz tangent but somehow always managed to bring it back to the blues and ended up rocking it. All in all a very good show

Dan Baird & Homemade Sin supported by Terry Anderson & The Olympic Ass Kickin' Team - Berkley Cafe, Raliegh, North Carolina.

Two of my favourite bands in the same gig. If I were to list the bands I would love to play at my own festival, these 2 bands would be top of the list .... even above MTH (which is risky to say on here !!). I couldn't get to the gig but my friend (and a friend of some of you on here) Dennis, a Dan Baird virgin, went along and posted this review on Facebook.

Dan Baird, Berkley Cafe Raleigh NC.

The opening act was Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass Kickin' Team. Said hello to Terry before the show. He remembered me. They started the show with 'Willie Mays'. They played my favorite song 'Goin' or Comin'' and 'Battleship Chains', a song Terry wrote for The Georgia Satellites. It was wall to wall music, out of one song into another. A great performance.

Afterwards former Georgia Satellites frontman Dan Baird came on. He surprised me. A high energy show with a couple of suprises. They did a sort of a punk cover of The Beatles 'Don't Pass Me By' and a true copy of Neil Youngs 'Rockin In The Free World'. They also did The Bands 'The Weight' but I never liked that song so I went for a beer. He did the Terry Anderson penned 'I Love You Period' with Terry getting onstage and singing with them. I knew it would be an awesome concert, and it was. Hard Rock and Roll at it's finest.

If Dan can play a football club in Conwy I'm sure he'd play somewhere similar in Wakefield and MTH could have a support slot
