 Re: Recent Gigs
I do not own Temple Beautiful and after yesterday the chances of having a copy or any CP album is zero.
My gut feeling was this sounds like White Light White Heat before the singing began. And if you sub the chorus of either songs the songs start to sound the same.
Not big fan of Bon Jovi.
Thanks, glad you like the pics.

Before Prophet even began singing my gut reaction was this sounds like White Light White Heat. Prophet didn't win me over as a fan. He and the band are all excellent musicians, but they failed to ignite my interest beyond seeing them on Sunday. All of us like music that many others would find boring, uninspiring, etc.. I like Shocking Blue and other people wonder, why? Other people like Zappa and I'm looking for the exit. Its all taste, However, Prophet got the idea for his White Light Big City from the White Light White Heat. I hear the connection between the two songs and if others don't ... well we don't agree. The debate over Prophet ripping off the Velvet Underground is a lot like the current Lady Gaga and Madonna battle over Born This Way and Express Yourself. A lot of people hear the connection between the two songs and others claim there is none. Its the same thing between the VU and Prophet.

 Re: Recent Gigs
Well I am in the "can't hear the connection" camp, other than the obvious repetition of the word White and a very slight undercurrent of feeling caused by the third (or whatever) line being sung in a lowered tone (compared to the traditional method of tone rising as the verse progresses before returning to the beginning.) Other than that they are totally different songs, with CP borrowing more from Jimmy Reed (deliberately as already said) than VU. Different rhythm altogether. Actaully quite a clever song, when knowing the history of the subject.
Maybe it is that "lowering of tone" that gives you the feeling of similarity Kevin.
For what it's worth I like Chuck Prophet and VU - so no axe to grind either way.

Funny I love Captain Beefheart - but Zappa sends me to sleep - have to give him another try...

 Re: Recent Gigs
More than 20 minutes of Zappa in one sitting is all the Zappa I can handle. in one day. He has a few albums I like and many I'm not thrilled about. Chunga's Revenge and Fillmore East Live are classics. Jazz From Hell, a late 80s album is brilliant. Hot Rats ... so/so. We're Only In It For the Money has been played twice during the last 40 years; the day I bought it and about two years ago. I love Cantalope Island with Jon Luk Ponty, but that is really a Pony album.

 Re: Recent Gigs
Kevin That you can say Hot rats is so/so shows how we all have different taste, I rate it as one of my favourite albums ever. Listen to You Are What You Is & The Best Band You Never Heard, I'm fairly sure you'll agree with the sentiments expressed on both of them.

 Re: Recent Gigs
That's about a year's worth for me. I can't deny Zappa was a talent and left behind a large and diverse body of work, but he was never one of my favorites. His attempts to be clever and weird seemed forced to me. But what do I know, I like Chuck Prophet.
