Beginning to regret not making it to the same tour in Louisville a couple of months back.

Andy - Count me among those who would love to see the Chuckster sit in with Al.

Alejandro Escovedo with Jesse Malin, the Mint, Los Angeles, August 24, 2012.

And oh, it was beautiful.

It was beautiful driving down the 10 freeway with the sun setting through the clouds drifting in over the coast, beautiful to be in Los Angeles on a Friday night, beautiful to run into Jesse Malin at the 7-11 before the show, a true pleasure to meet Alejandro while waiting in line. We were the second couple in, were seated and had drinks on the table as Jesse, his piano player, and Wayne Kramer (from MC5) did an absolutely scorching version of Burning the Bowery as a sound check for the 6 or 7 people that happened to be in the club before everyone else in line, proceeded to put in a brilliant set, only topped by Alejandro's, which was pure magic. Ended his set with Malin and Kramer on stage for Rocking the Casbah and Beast of Burden. And it was beautiful driving home through the southern california silence of the morning listening to the copy of True Believer I picked up at the show for the first time.

Bless my soul, that was true rock and roll.

Just curious as to why you went to The Mint and not the Coach House as I recall you are in the OC? How many people were there for the show? Thanks

Post Re: Recent Gigs
I saw on here where Andy had bought tickets to the San Francisco show, and when I went on Escovedo's site, the Mint show was the only one listed. I jumped on the tickets, and then a few days later I saw he was playing at not only the Coach House on Wednesday but at Saint Rocke's up in Hermosa Beach on Thursday. I stuck with the Mint because it was a Friday night. If I had really known how good the show was, I might have gone to all three nights (at $15.00 a ticket!)

The Mint holds about 200 people at the most, it really is small, it was a supper and jazz club back in the 1940s. The Coach House is a better venue for watching a show, but we really got lucky -- we got a table off to the side (one of only 6 booths in the whole place), shared it with two really nice and intelligent guys from Long Beach who respected our space, and because the table was against the wall we were able to sit on the small ledge and have a perfect view over everybody's heads (it was 90 percent standing only). And turns out they really get some good talent.

It really was just one of those magic nights that those who "get it" understand.

Dead on observation. Alejandro has had a knack for turning in performances that trigger comments like the above for quite a while.

worst line up for years, headliners were The Cure (OK), Foo fighters (boring), and Kasabian (really enjoyed them), Florence and the Machine (pretty good), Paramore and Kaiser Chiefs, (does what it says on the tin).
Mystery Jets came out strong for me as did Young Guns, and one of my old favourites, The Subways.
spent a lot of time watching the Introducing Stage which showcases unsigned bands, watch out for a band called The Marmozets, they're only 16 - 18 and all go to the same school as my daughters, not my kind of music, but they will go far.

2.5 hours of The Cure and the Foo Fighters was a bit too much to take.

gonna go to Reading next year, Green Day turned up for an unannouced one hour set and apparently the press tent is much nicer than at Leeds.

Everyone seems to like Florence and the Machine. What I hear on the radio is pretty good. Not surprised by you assessment of the Foo Fighters - I find them on the boring side as well.

Do you get free beer in the press tent?

free beer while it lasts and endless amounts of tea and coffee and even biscuits this year :D

The Foos are very popular here, can't understand why, each song sounds just like the last one

A lady at work gave me a Foo Fighters Greatest Hits CD and I've listened to it once. Now I know why she gave it to me. :)

Black Keys got 55 minutes on stage, Foo Fighters 2.5 hours - something not right there
