N/P Stone Sole River - Retrospective. Local-ish band I saw last week for the umpteenth time. Usually play a fair mix of their own stuff, mixed in with bits of Hendrix, Zep, Floyd, Neil Young, Purple, etc.. Retrospective is a collection of their early 2000s material. Mick

Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
Love it to Death followed by Killer.
For me, these are what define Alice; raw but innovative, great songs, of their own era but with something timeless about them. Lots of goodies came later on, but they were building on solid foundations.
As good a pair of back-to-back albums as you'll ever hear. Mick

Jeff Beck...rock n' roll party, live tribute to Les Paul
Great live album that really shows Beck's versatility. He plays some great rockabilly, some twangy surf instrumentals, and even a jazzy song or two. Imelda May does a lot of the vocals and she is really a good singer. Another find from the local library.

Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
I don't really get Imelda May - she is a good singer but I am not sure just where her feeling lies. One odd thing is that I heard her talk a few times on TV and also at a gig once. Each time she had a very pronounced "cockney" accent whicg sounded a bit like when a good posh actor plays a cockney - ie close but not quite right. But the other day I heard her on radio and she had a very broad Irish accent. Does she know which way she wants to go? G

Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
was it Good? and did it Vibrate? Seriously , there have been several reviews of this (there are several different sized (and priced) versions) and they say "first time issued as it was meant to be" (as compared to the original later Smiley Smile album which picked up a few of the songs ). But they don't mention the CD issued in 2004 that had all the fundamental songs. This was promoted at the time as "first time issued as it was meant to be". The big box set looks nice though but a bit pricey. G
