Rick,

Its amazing how they have just walked into the studio and come up with this as they haven't recorded as a full band since 1987, not a bad track but there is a few gems. I was playing it full monty in the car, brilliant, thats my new saying btw. Also, plenty European dates but no USA, and only one Scottish.

I confess due to watching only recently The Wire, i have bought and am really enjoying a back catologue of Tom Waits.I suspect this will not be looked upon favourably?

I think the opposite - there are a lot of people who rate Tom Waits. However I can't really see the point of listening to someone who makes Lee Marvin sound like a sweet voiced choirboy.

I'm a big Tom Waits fan. I don't like everything he's done, but there are a few Ian tunes that don't do it for me either. Waits is the epitome of late night gin soaked jazz and poetry.
Remember, Bessie Smith didn't have the smoothest vice either but could she belt out a tune!
This is probably my favorite Waits tune:

Same with me. I was a big fan years ago and had most of his earlier albums on vinyl. Saw him in concert in Melbourne at the time and he was great. Didn't listen to him much for a long while but 'rediscovered' him a few years ago and bought most of his earlier albums on CD for about $8 each - excellent value for a great songwriter / performer.

I went to buy Banga by Patti Smith earlier, two tracks in its sounding good, on the way I was ambushed by a display of special editions & had to buy Damned Damned Damned 3 CD set, so far only listened to the original album which remains as good as it ever was, other discs are 26 demo/Peel session/live tracks & 11 tracks live at 100 club July 76. Now onto 4th track of Banga, very impressed

Spectrum Road.....Jack Bruce, Vernon Reid, John Modeski, and cindy Blackman Santana take their Tony Williams Lifetime tribute into the studio for an album of heavy jazz-rock. Good stuff, and I can't wait to see them at this years Montreal jazz festival!

Kula Shaker- Pilgrim's Progress I'm a big fan, somehow this album got by me. So new to me.
Melissa Auf der Maur- Out of Our Minds Much better than her last album. You can definitely hear what she brought to Hole.
Buick MacKane- The Pawn Shop Years Another one that got by me when it was new. Love Alejandro Escovedo.

Just been listening to a morning of Jazz, well it was a TV programme called "All you need is love". Great History about jazz and the guy who told it knew his stuff, he said that we have all been robbed of the best jazz musicians because of their colour. He also said that a guy did a copyright on any song having boogie woogie in it and collected on every song that had it in the title, interesting watch/listen.
