Post Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
Unbeknownst to me until today...Ronnie Montrose was working on an album at the time of his death. It has now been released (September 1, 2017) and is chock full of guest appearances.

Ronnie Montrose, '10X10' Track Listing
"Heavy Traffic" (Eric Martin and Dave Meniketti)
"Love Is an Art" (Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer)
"Color Blind" (Sammy Hagar and Steve Lukather)
"Still Singin' With the Band" (Glenn Hughes, Phil Collen Jimmy "Z" Zavala)
"Strong Enough" (Tommy Shaw)
"Any Minute" (Mark Farner and Ricky Phillips)
"The Kingdom's Come Undone" (Ricky Phillips and Joe Bonamassa)
"One Good Reason" (Bruce Turgon and Brad Whitford)
"Head On Straight" (Davey Pattison and Marc Bonilla)
"I'm Not Lying" (Gregg Rolie, Tom Gimbel and Lawrence Gowan)

Also...first album has been re-released with bonus disc containing 17 tracks including demos and live performances from 1973.

Thanks for the tip. Some of those tracks look like they'd be killers. I will check out.

He certainly transforms an annoying sickly sounding old Gene Pitney song into something listenable.

A new band. Greta van Fleet. 3 brothers and a childhood friend all influenced by their parents taste in music. Very Zeppelinesque but somehow original

A few new CD purchases :-)

- The Pretenders - Alone. Their latest studio album in anticipation of seeing them again live next Friday.
- Lucinda Williams - This Sweet Old World. A great re-recording of one of her earlier albums with her current band Buick 6.
- The On And Ons - Welcome Aboard. The great second album from the Sydney based power pop/rock band featuring Clyde Bramley on bass (ex Hoodoo Gurus and confirmed Hunter/MTH fan).
- The Stems - At First Sight Violets Are Blue. The great 30th Anniversary reissue of this Perth based power pop/rock band's album. I'm seeing them live in Melbourne tomorrow night :-)

just played Mick Ralphs Blues Band last CD If It Ain't Broke. Highly recommended.

This has a great sound to it - plenty of power. It is very much like the bluesier side of Bad Company (includes a couple of old Bad Co tracks - probably sounding better than BC!).

So good that I had to replay a couple of the tracks again afterwards.

Re: "first album day." When that topic comes up I always think of the Pretender's first album. May be the most "fully hatched" kick off effort I can think of.

Totally agree :-) A great first album and their second and third were pretty good as well. I'm seeing The Pretenders at the Forum in Melbourne on Friday night :-)

just played the new Ronnie Montrose album - 10x10. This is the one that he was working on before he died. Together with 2 others he laid down the main template for the 10 songs, then chose the singers he wanted to sing each track (different for each one). The final bit was to do the lead guitar solos as overdubs, but he did before that got done, so 10 hotshots were brought in, and one of the original 3 guys got it all together and finished it off. The whole thing has worked very wel, producing probably the best solo album that Ronnie ever had.

10 x 10 has only been our for about a month.

Recommended.

Thanks Gra.

Tom -- Pretenders should have Eric Heywood on steel. Saw him with them a few years ago and the juxtaposition of a traditional C and W instrument w/ Chrissie's canon is very cool (although they tend to bury him in the mix a bit much). His credits include Son Volt and the work with the Jayhawks.
