Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
I didn't realise the questions were directed at me ! I thought they were rhetorical. what an absolute pile of shite, who cares about queers in football? As I am unaware of who is or who is not homosexual in professional football I am unable to pass comment.Statistically,I believe, there must be a certain number and I suppose those who care about them care about them in football. what is the benefit of a campaign like this? Possibly to encourage homosexuals to play the sport who may otherwise be discouraged if they were to feel 'out of the loop'. more gay footballers committing suicide?Fashanu committed suicide after his football career had ended so I think it hard to see a correlation between homosexual, football and suicide. more front page news for the gutter press? From what I understand, homosexuals would welcome the publicity should someone 'come out'.The gutter press will always be the gutter press for as long as they make money. is the game suffering without this crass campaign? The game is suffering for a number of reasons and I don't think those who have started the campaign consider it to be crass. Now you have got my brain hurting,do I take it you took offence because the clip showed a goal scored against Liverpool ?

Surely those who don't care vastly outnumber those who do. I have neither knowledge or any feelings towards any professional footballer whatever their sexual preference so why should anyone be expected to care about any minority group whatever their sexuality.what is the benefit of a campaign like this? Possibly to encourage homosexuals to play the sport who may otherwise be discouraged if they were to feel 'out of the loop'. Why would anyone need encouraging to play the most lucrative sport in the country???
They either want to play or don't their sexuality has no bearing on this desire.more gay footballers committing suicide?Fashanu committed suicide after his football career had ended so I think it hard to see a correlation between homosexual, football and suicide. So if it has nothing to do with his football career he must have topped himself because he was homosexual thereby totally disproving the 'Gay' labelling of this section of the community.more front page news for the gutter press? From what I understand, homosexuals would welcome the publicity should someone 'come out'.The gutter press will always be the gutter press for as long as they make money. is the game suffering without this crass campaign? The game is suffering for a number of reasons and I don't think those who have started the campaign consider it to be crass. No one starts a campaign like this however crass caring if it fits the label they always do it out of self interest and publicity seeking. Now you have got my brain hurting,do I take it you took offence because the clip showed a goal scored against Liverpool ? | | | | |

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
Old one, but it still funny ...
Geordies are not stupid
53,000 shirtless Geordies meet in sub zero temperatures at St James Park for a "Geordies Are Not Stupid" convention.
Alan Shearer addresses the crowd "We are all here today to prove to the world that Geordies are not stupid. Can I have a volunteer please". To loud applause Gazza gingerly works his way through the crowd and steps up to the stage.
Shearer asks him "What is 15 plus 15?" After 15 or 20 seconds Gazza says, "Eighteen!"
Obviously everyone is a little disappointed. Then the Geordies start chanting "Give him another chance! Give him another chance!"
Shearer says "Well since we have a capacity crowd, world-wide press and global broadcast media here, I think we can give him another chance".
So he asks "What is 5 plus 5?" After nearly 30 seconds he eventually says, "Ninety?"
Shearer looks down and just lets out a dejected sigh.
Everyone is disheartened and Gazza starts crying.
But then the 53,000 Geordies begin to yell and wave their hands shouting "GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE! GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE!"
Shearer, unsure whether he is now doing more harm than good eventually says, "What is 2 plus 2?"
Silence hangs over the stadium.
Gazza closes his eyes, and after a whole minute eventually says, "Four?"
Pandemonium breaks out throughout the stadium as the Geordie crowd stand to a man, wave their arms, stomp their feet and scream..................
"GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE! GIVE HIM ANOTHER CHANCE!"

Will the last person to leave Fratton Park please turn out the lights.
Interesting thought - if Portsmouth do not even last until the end of the season (and they might not) how many teams will be relegated?

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
feeling only sympathy for the fans, i hope Portsmouth FC disappears forever and many other clubs like them until the point where the FA and the remaining clubs decide to halt the way clubs allow themselves to get into spiralling debt. i largely blame the FA for not setting ground rules but a business is a business and you simply cannot spend more than you earn and expect to exist. wages need to be capped, for the Prem i'd suggest £15,000 per week (and that's far too much), agents need to be banned, TV rights should be equally shared amongst all channels generating more cash which should be distributed evenly amongst ALL Prem and FL clubs. if people don't like that, they can always buggar off to another country where they can earn a fortune, but at least we'd have a level playing field in the UK.

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
My understanding is that if they are wound up all results are expunged, two teams go down , three come up and there is an extra team promoted ffom each division all the way down the pyramid. If they continue in administration they continue losing heavily as (inevitably) unpaid players become free agents and leave.

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
I hope Mick is okay after his Stockport team attempted to throw away a 4-0 lead, before the final whistle blew at 4-3. Not to forget the stupidity of Man.City helping their nearest and dearest ! Still, their fans are revolting - After today's Wembley protest, there is even speculation that United fans and those of their arch-rivals Liverpool are considering joining forces against their respective American owners when the two teams meet on 21 March. Liverpool are owned by Americans Tom Hicks and George Gillett – who are felt by fans to have saddled the famous club with soaring debts and interest payments, and failed to deliver on the promise of a bigger ground.
Spirit of Shankly, a Liverpool supporters' group that is coordinating a campaign to oust Hicks and Gillett, denied reports in the Manchester press last week that it has already held secret meetings with its counterparts along the M62. However, the group's AGM takes place in Liverpool today, and high on the agenda will be the issue of whether to join forces with United fans in a demonstration in March. The impact of a joint demonstration by supporters known for their fierce animosity towards each other would be bound to generate fresh headlines around the world.LINK

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
as you said. -- although £15k a week still too much. But a huge reduction in players costs would have 2 beneficial results 1 the clubs could manage to reduce the entrance fees for the fans 2 the reduction of players incomes would get rid odf the "WAGS" affect and all the bollocks that goes with that. Who really cares about John Terry's affairs and all the rest of that bullshit anyway. One day last week on th efront of the papaer there was one headline about him and one about Tiger Woods (making out how sorry he is for what he's done - sure!). Over in the corner of the front page was som ereal news about some world disaster - can't remember what it was now tucked away in the cirner. Of course the result would probably mean that some of the top players might end up playing abroad - well let 'em, but don't then let em play back here when they want to. G
