Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
I think the conclusion to be drawn at the end of 2011 is the poor quality of the managers with the most money to spend - and the complete lack of quality of young players emerging through the Academies. There is no surprise that Fergie's fledgling managers have failed after enjoying enduring poor management. Hughes,Bruce,Keane,Robson and Ince not in employment. Wenger, despite buying young players from around the world has struggled to make an impact for years. Dalglish spends lots of money but there is not a lot emerging through their academy and they no longer buy from the lower leagues and develop. Not many of his former players are at the top of the management game.
It looks like the foreign owners, with foreign managers and foreign players will be given the Premiership title even though the same club failed in Europe.
Not much to look forward to in 2012 but a lot of hard work.

No English manager has won the premiershit. So quick quiz - who was the last English manager to win the league? No googling or looking it up. Mick

I can't remember ever having enjoyed seeing sunderland win a game before, I don't like seeing manchester chequebook buy their way to success. Now I hope Rooney went on the lash last night & gets dropped again on Wednesday

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
I cannot ever remember Newcastle NOT hogging the headlines from Sunderland whenever Sunderland did anything which would attract media attention.I think they signed Owen when there was some new breaking at Sunderland. How they have left O'Neill to arrive - with all of the surrounding issues and remain completely silent is baffling in the extreme. They are on the slide as Sunderland build momentum. It has never been this way before. Look back to all the major incidents - sackings, signings etc.NUFC have always tried to have the attention. I don't think the cockneys have been informed. I cannot see Man U.losing 2 on the bounce to 2 sides on a downer.

You've not sobered up since New Year by the look of it, a lucky win with an offside goal, funny as it was you were battered & should have lost.

Arsenal,Liverpool and Chelsea;3 clubs that need someone up front to help them get more goals.Surprising none of them have thought about Peter Crouch...................

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
such sad news to start the year with. a former county manager, reserve team manager at Liverpool when they won the Junior Premier League. and the only player to win the F.A. Cup with both Liverpool and Everton. a very classy footballer in his day. YNWA Gary

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
Following a recent home game Evra has reported a whole club to the FA for calling themselves Blackburn Rovers. Sorry.I'm off to celebrate an English jury restoring my faith - oh,and a belated well done to the Daily Mail for their actions all those years ago.

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
The league before the premiership was indeed won by Howard Wilkinson who then led his team into the first Champions League who with rising superstar Eric Cantona in their ranks were soundly beaten home and away by the best team in the world at the time
