Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
I agree .......I was at both of them.... In those days were were a thousand times better than Celtic. Credit to them they have dragged down our standard we are only about 509 times better than celitc now and about half the standard of a mid table championship team

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
Football was more of a level playing field back then. Players wages were realistic and managers could build a side without having a sugar daddy. And teams going into admin or liquidation were a rarity.
Looks like Darlington are in trouble again, and might not make it this time. Having been to the old and new grounds many times, it's the fans i feel for. A couple of weeks of premier league monopoly money could sort all the lower leagues and grass roots financial problems out, but things won't level off again until all the armchairs unsubscribe from sky and the flow of silly money stops.
Mick

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
Don't know if I agree Mick it was certainly a purple patch for my club. In the area preceding that the English clubs were banned from Europe and while Celtic kept up their penny pinching biscuit tin mentality Rangers were paying wages that could match or better in Europe. We had some great players in those days including the England international goalkeeper, centre half and midfield. We were above the level playing field then......now we are 6 feet under it

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
following on from ManUre's decision to name a part of their ground after their manager, Liverpool have decided to follow suit. the famous Kop is being named after their manager Kenny Dalglish and will be officially named the King Kenny Kop ...
... or KKK for short

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
Shame the 3 points Swansea got came from a player falling over to get a penalty, when,if anything,he was the person committing the foul.................and then they give him "man of the match",perhaps "starring performance" would be more appropriate

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
There's too much of it Ray, but Wenger wouldn't have complained if Henry or one of his had done the same. Great manager, but very blinkered. Mick

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
I didn't listen to the after match twaddle.I was just surprised that the "experts" talking at half-time decided (rightly in my opinion) that the player who was awarded the penalty had actually committed the foul. Then another "expert" makes him man of the match.Don't these people communicate?...................

Good to see Rafa's signings still doing the business. I think the real money,to pay for King Kenny's flops,is in the Champions League. You won't be going there, once !

Re: The Real English Football Thread, Part 3
well that's a short sighted view, it might be a few years away, but we'll get there. in the meantime, a Wembley appearance and beating the Scum makes for a very happy ship - so don't piss on our fireworks.
