Passionate people, passionate places...

Former Newcastle player Darren Jackson (now working as a player's agent) has been talking to the Scottish media about the rumoured interest of Newcastle in Rangers striker Kris Boyd:

"If you score for Newcastle you're awarded messiah-like status - like Ally McCoist had at Rangers, like Henrik Larsson had at Celtic.

"Shearer obviously had it, but that was different because he was a born-and-bred Geordie. However, having experienced Newcastle for myself, what I will say is that they love the Scots.

"They love our attitude and our never-say-die spirit, it's akin to their own. You give them what you've got and that's all they expect.
Darren then went all 'Father Ted' with the classic line:

"In a Geordie man's life there are three important things - football, drink and women - and that's the order. It means so much to them down there and they deserve so much better (we think he means football...)

"It's hard to get the top, top players up to England's north-east but a successful Newcastle would be amazing. Boydy would love it and I think he'd be hugely successful. He is ideally suited for a club like Newcastle.

"I don't think there's any doubt Kris could score goals at Premiership level. Everyone knows how Kris plays the game, he'll need a good partner alongside him. But he'll score goals. That's what he does, he's a goalscorer.

"And if he does go to Newcastle then he's going to a very special place and club. I class Celtic and Rangers along with Manchester United and Liverpool in terms of stature and size. But in terms of expectation and supporters there's no bigger club than Newcastle.

"The Premiership challenge would be very difficult for him, but how many players actually score 20-odd plus goals in that league every season? It is very, very difficult. I still think, however, that Kris would get his fair share because that's what he does.

"Other people ask, 'does he work hard enough?', 'does he hold the ball up well enough?'. But you can teach people that. I think this season there has been a dramatic improvement in Kris. He is working harder and he is holding the ball up better.

"What you can't teach someone to do is score goals. You're either a finisher or you're not. Goals are scored by instinct and Kris is an instinctive finisher. Boydy works on pure instinct and that's why Newcastle want him I'm sure."

"I'm sure Newcastle will be looking to bring in a couple of players in January just to give them that extra strength and depth ahead of the run-in.

"Boyd's goals would certainly help them back to the Premiership and let's face it, that's where a club like Newcastle should be.

"Unless they offer an absolute fortune, however, I'd be surprised if Rangers let him go in January. The decision, of course, maybe taken out of Walter's hands - I don't know how bad the financial situation is.

"But losing Boyd would be a huge blow to Rangers' title and Champions League ambitions because right now he's a man bang on form.

"Rangers may look at the bigger picture and try and hang on to him. Of course, you then run the risk of losing him for nothing in the summer and that's something they'll want to avoid as well.

"It'll be interesting to see what happens over the coming weeks. Rangers will have to weigh up what is best for them. But I understand why Newcastle are so keen on him. He brings a guarantee of goals and you don't win matches without scoring."

They moved to Geneva and Columbia University to escape the Nazis, I still believe your getting twisted by what the Chicago school is up to.

rapid vienna 3 celtic 3

celtic fielded there so called second team tonight and after 20 minutes it looked like disaster,at 3.0 we looked dead and buried. but the hoops never give in and after 20 minutes celtic were the better team right to the end. celtic have a lot of talent in the youths (8 straight titles tells you something) and they have a gem in mcginn, what a prospect this guy is. i have never seen him have a bad game for celtic but tonight he was immence.

tony mowbray has a lot to pick from squad wise so i hope he can see it and use it, brilliant stuff from celtic.

again we had no luck though, we beat rapid vienna over the two legs, we beat tel aviv over the two legs and only lost 1.0 over two legs to hamburg, yet celtic go out.

rapid vienna got the wooden spoon, the same one rangers won in europe this season.

hopefully we will now start to rebuild the team with mowbray getting more backing from the fans and board.

mon the hoops

Well, at least you can concentrate on the league.

Which is what I said at work Wednesday morning after we were knocked out of the FA Cup. And one of the chaps said "You're not concentrating very well then, you're still bottom!"

Is this why Scottish football is in a bad way as the players don't understand our language.

No Wheels,
While I am absolutely delighted the victory brings your wonderful year to a pleasant conclusion,I have 2 worries

1) 'does he hold the ball up well enough?'. But you can teach people that. I think this season there has been a dramatic improvement in Kris. He is working harder and he is holding the ball up better. as per Mottmans posting above.

Shouldn't he have learned this as a child ?

2) The side Rangers defeated were until recently managed by the new Scottish manager !

Talking of 'Boyd's' - has anyone seen that George Boyd of Peterborough play...? What a fantastic footballer he is (central midfield). He is fully capable of Premier League football, and how on earth he's not been snapped up by Brum or Wolves or such-like is beyond me..

He would get into Rangers team...

George Boyd, marvellous footballer... is he Scottish ?

rangers fans are always on about how shite kris boyd is, including some on here. remember he always gets dropped as walter smith doesnt even rate him. the only person who has given him any credit is me, i have said he is a natural goalscorer many times, he need to score in big games though, 1 goal against celtic in 26 tells you something.
