Not sure where this (in memorium or whatever it was called ) topic went, but...

Mick Green just died this morning. Mick was a legendary session guitarist and member of The Pirates. I saw them (with Mick) about 4 years ago and they played a storm. At the time he had not long recovered from heart surgery and seemed very relaxed. I also saw him backing Van Morrison last year at the BBC Radio Theatre.

i dread these type of threads but i suppose we need to know. mick green was a great guitar man, i wish some of the modern guys had listened a bit more to him. wilko johnston will be devastated.

seen him play with dave gilmour and paul mcartney on tv, that was the last time i saw him.

He played beautifully on Bryan Ferry's Frantic. He was part of the touring band sharing guitar duties with Chris Spedding, but when the tour hit California, he was nowhere to be seen. Then I found out he'd had a heart attack while onstage with Ferry a few weeks earlier. During the song Cruel.

That news hit me hard.One of my all time favourite guitarists, thanks to Wilko.Only ever seen The Pirates once and it was possibly the sweatiest gig i have ever been to.Still remember trying to see where the 2nd guitarist was but of course there was only Mick, thats how good he was.

I only saw them once at the Nashville in West Kensington in about 1979. Truly great. RIP.

Oh! This is terrible news! He was definitely a brilliant guitar virtuoso! I've only seen videos of the great man, and I've got some live Pirates cd's, and from what I've seen and heard, the man was just amazing!

When he played his guitar, he made it sing! And sometimes you couldn't even see his fingers hit those strings, and play those amazing resonating notes. Another brilliant musician has left us, but has also left us with his amazing musical legacy, where we can enjoy his music for decades to come.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Mick Green. We will remember you always.

Bobby Charles died the other day. He sang country and wrote a shed load of R&B / R&R songs - eg for Fats Domino (Walking To New Orleans) See You Later Alligator - Bill Haley.

I heard about Mick Green only yesterday.
I feel very sad.
The two "skulls" LPs by the pirates were to me the best R'n'R records of the era.
I discovered Green because of Wilko Johnson claiming all over the place Green waq the real stuff. As I was a Johnson fan I bought "out of their skulls" and got hooked for ever.

Very sad indeed.
