Edgar Broughton Band was one of those bands that was regularly playing gigs in London in late 60's and early 70's and were always on if there was a free festival ( Hyde Park type of thing). Quite political, I found them to go on a bit and could have done with a different singer - but that was just my take.

The live stuff I've got is a bit self-indulgent at times, like a lot of bands at that time. The third to fifth albums they released have been played a lot by me over the last thirty odd years including the last few days.
I like Edgars voice but can see why you may not. Their reunion concert at the 100 Club a few years ago is in in my top few concerts ever, possibly because except for the omission of one track it was my perfect setlist.
Mick, you're right, I meant Saturday & typed Friday

My abiding memory of Worcestershire during the late 60's was catching a Midland Red Bus to school that had 'out demons out' painted down the side - graffiti was not rampant in sleepy Droitwich - catching the 'out demons out' bus was cool for this 13 year old - it was there for what seemed like years and it was a while later that I made the connection to Edgar.

Another band similar to Edgar B's Band and on the same gig circuit at the time was Pete Brown And His Battered Ornaments. Now Pete was responsible for the words on the majority of Cream's songs, but for my ears, he never really had that special thing as a singer/band leader (again liked to make a few political points which didn't really seem too relevant)

Went to Jackson Brown solo acoustic show at the Marin Arts Center last night. Set 1 he played by himself. Set 2 he was joined by Bonnie Raitt. Image is from my phone, no cameras were allowed, taken from the 3rd row.

Jackson Browne is a dude - his Late For the Sky LP has been in the top box of my gramophone player for years - ie it doesn't get filed away - alongside such greats as Mott The Hoople [Reunion CD] Richard Hawley Coles Corner Neil McSweeney Shoreline Colorama Colouring Book.

I saw him for the first time in Liverpool a year or two back - it was just a great great night - and I couldn't get over the number of women aged 50+ who had the hots for the wee laddie

Late for the Sky belongs in the 100 best albums of the 70s.

Its not just women over 50 who go to his shows, but an equal number younger than 50 too, and many of them go alone.

The only other band I noticed that draws women over 50 to a concert, alone no less, is Judas Priest. I'm not sure what the appeal is to them.

Because their husbands/boyfriends can spot a boring gig a mile away.

Bonnie Raitt = insufferable.

I saw Judas Priest as a support to Budgie at my local 'Palais' Northwich Memorial Hall in 1973[?] and thought they were total shite - there were no women at that gig over 50 under 50 - just spotty rag arse teenage lads...

Late for the Sky is a memorable LP and in my top 10 - well this week anyways...

Nice to see we have a difference of opinion Andy - for the past few years I thought everything you liked I liked - Humble Pie Rockin the Filmore is still the Worlds Number 1 Live LP tho' ...

Well apart from the first 20 minutes of Mott The Hoople Reunion.

I'm pissed - I'm a dead man - whose message board is this again?

8)

Part of the beauty of music is it's diversity - there's something for everyone's taste. Some of the stuff I listen to others here wouldn't. That's fine.

I like Jackson Browne as well, but the thought of having to sit through an acoustic (or electric for that matter) set by Bonnie Raitt is just not my cup of tea. I know - already tried it. :)

I lost interest in Bonnie Raitt after she released 'Nick of Time'. After that is was all about hits, he concerts were boring, and the music lost something. But when Bonnie plays benefit shows it sits in with someone else (like Jackson Brown), she ignites on fire like the old days. I've seen her get into slide guitar wars with Santana, BB King, John Lee Hooker, and Stephen Stills. I've seen her jam with Jorma Kaukonen, Steve Kimock, John Hiatt, and Bob Weir.

I never saw Judas Priest in 73, but I did first see them in 79, and now they are on their final tour.

The Scorpions will making their way through the states on the last leg of their farewell tour this summer.

The original lineup of Black Sabbath announce today they were reuniting, will record a new album, and go on a world tour.

I have not seen Bonnie Rait live. But when she first came out I thought she was good - maybe with a bit of anger the way she attacked the guitar - -and seemed to be the only female at the time who had some blues cred. Then over the years she seemed to drift into some sort of mediocrity.

ie - boring

I was thinking the same thing! Great minds think alike. And great families know how to enjoy themselves. :)
