The biggest crowd I've seen Dan Baird, one of my favourites who I might have mentioned one or two times on here, in front of was approx 30,000 people when The Georgia Satellites were 2nd on the bill to Status Quo at the Reading Festival in 1987

Saw that one - the Georgia Satellites were great.

Saw Diamond Dogs, the time Darrell Bath was standing in with them, and there were probably about six people paying; the rest being friends of the band. It was a very short set.

Seen Otway a few times with low turnouts and he always does full show and puts the effort in. The man is an underrated star. And an insanely cheerful bastard. Top bloke.

Danny Bryant's Redeye Band. I don't know how many have heard of him but I really rate him, having seen him playing when he must only have been about 16 - not yet gone pro . Check him out on Youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCsUDYGN7S8&feature=related

Anyway, a few years ago , I noticed a sign outside my local pub at the time, showing he was playing that Sunday evening. I had never known the pub to have a live band before so it was quite a shock to see that it was someone I rated so much.

So we got down there early (Mr & MrsG) to be sure of a good position. There were a few of the normal regulars at the bar who clearly weren't interested in any music, so I discount them. There was Danny's family who had come to support him (his dad plays bass in the 3 piece band), so I discount them also. So apart from the discounted people, there was Me, Mrs G, and one other!

I must admit that during the set, maybe about another 5 people wandered in and stayed.

Still it was a great night and Danny played his heart out - paying his dues.

Friday night @ Kimo's in SF - the debut performance of The First Church of the Sacred Silversexual. A Bowie cover show that's part concert, part play and part revival. They set an attendance record for the venue, partly due to cramming 13 performers on a tiny stage. My son is the guy on the right playing the Les Paul.

A sweaty, fun night was had by all. Well, maybe except for the guy who passed out in font of me. Made me miss a song.

Andy is that your trousers (pants) he's wearing ?.
The @$%&! Spiders From Mars I'm sure that's not the right words but a bit of artistic licence is fine, although I was shocked that such a pretty young lady would utter such a naughty word.

I thought they were Noddy Holder's trousers!

Actually, the girls in the band made the costumes. Later in the show he was wearing a red feather boa. Looked like Eno circa 1972.

Last night was Zappa Plays Zappa, good but not great. I can't fault the musicianship but could have done without all the solos & thought Dweezil didn't play enough.
It all started well with Heavy Duty Judy followed by the whole of Apostrophe, after that though I thought some of the songs could have been different, I didn't really need to hear an extended City Of.. even more so Honey Don't...
Some people I talked to when I went for a toilet break were complaining about the sound where they were sat, I thought it was ok for RHS of row G but not exceptional. Still despite all that I'll be back next time hoping for something more like the fairly stunning DVD released in 2008.

I saw the last ZPZ tour when "apostrophe" was played in it's entirety and I was a little dissappointed too. I loved most of the songs but they featured too many of the "silly" songs like "titties & beer". Overall I still think what Dweezil is doing is great and I look forward to his next stop in the Boston area.

MM is a rock star. The show is brilliant. The band includes Sami Yaffa from Hanoi Rocks, Dregen from Backyard Babies/Hellacopters, and Steve Conte from the New York Dolls.
Not to be missed.

And Karl Rockfist on drums, but other than that, wot he said.

Bang on form last night at the manc Ritz, with guest spots from Ginger Wildheart and Honest John Plain. Not sure whether MM wants to be Mick Jagger, Iggy Pop or David Jo, but he's a brilliant frontman.

Also on form was the headliner, Wednesday 13, who was a new one on me but I'll be having more of it.

Crash Diet supported, and they were pretty good too, so all in all a very good night. Some pics to follow if any of them turn out half-decent.

If this tour is coming to your neck of the woods I'd recommend it.
Mick

Jesse Malin was great at the Scala, with a really good band behind him.We were lucky to see him supporting Ian,but we would have been blessed if he had had this band with him at the time

was that the St Marks Social? I remember someone saying that that was how you should see Jesse rather than as solo.

Saturday night in Glasgow, a three band bill, the main act for me was the middle one Still Vintage featuring the son of JC on drums (as in John Clark rather than any fictional character). Very good they were, possibly a bit heavier than I like but I was impressed with the talent on show. As well as Steven on drums a special mention has to go to the guitarist Paddy who despite a heavily bandaged hand managed to play the last two songs, I look forwards to seeing/hearing him next year with two fully functioning hands.
The headliners Bags Of Rock started out interesting, burst onto stage with a punk/rock instrumental featuring two bagpipe players & made a great noise, unfortunately every other track sounded similar & it became a bit of an ordeal, still always good to see John & the new Krankies kazoo player amongst others.

John Clark's not a fictional character??

Here's links to pics from some recent stuff:

You should be able to see these without logging in.

Not great, but being half-blind, half-pissed, having wobbly hands, and a camera that took a beating in Hereford don't help.
