Dan Baird & Homemade Sin : The Old Vic, Swindon Tue 29th Nov - Bootleggers, Kendal Thu 1st Dec - Borderline, London Fri 2nd Dec
The Swindon gig was a 'hat set' with the songs being drawn out of hat and that was the next song they played - this led to a few lesser played songs appearing but there wasn't the flow of a usual gig. Kendal was 2 sets of over an hour each and London was a 2.5 hour set in front of a sold out Borderline crowd that almost took the roof off with their singing along. Each gig was a mixture of current songs, tracks from Dan's solo albums, songs from the Georgia Satellites albums and a few covers. A new cover this time around was 'Can't Get Enough' from Bad Company - Mick Ralphs was due to be joining them onstage at the Borderline so they had learned the song specially but as it turned out, he couldn't make it but the band played the song anyway. Warner Hodges guitar solo's in 'Crooked Smile' are getting toward the Mick Ronson / Moonage Daydream level, he is one of the most amazing guitarists around at the moment, great playing but all within the overall sound, not just an ego trip. Highlights of the tour so far are stunning versions of Railroad Steel, All Over But The Cryin, Two For Tuesday and the previously mentioned Crooked Smile.
6 more gigs next week and the Glasgow gig next Saturday night will be an 8pm start (I think), no support show in order to get the full set in before the 10.30pm curfew for whatever the venue turns in to at 11pm - this is what they usually do at the Borderline and it works well there.

I will be in Glasgow next Sat, Kyassor (hopefully) let me know if your around for a few beers. I won't be going to the show unless I can talk my pals into going, never even knew it was on.

Lindsay Buckingham has canceled his UK tour next week, his guitar player (does he really need one) has done his back in.

I should be around for a few beers and food at 5 or 6pm - not sure exactly as I'm driving up from Leicester and it will depend on traffic. There are a few of us going to / meeting at the gig and you are welcome to join us if your pals aren't going.

The Doors Alive. Academy 3, saturday.

Seen a few Doors tributes and this is probably as close as anyone will get, other than he's got fat Jim's beard and thin Jim's body. He's also got the voice.

Ginger Wildheart and Friends, Moho Live, mancland

Last night.
What can i say? This bloke is pure rock'n'roll.
The friends in question were Chris Catalyst (Eurekas, Sisters of Mercy), Jon Poole (Cardiacs, Wildhearts, etc.), Rich Jones (Amen, The Black Halos), Denzil (Ginger & the Sonic Circus) and the very gorgeous Victoria Liedtke (no idea - never heard of her).
Not too familiar with a lot of it, but it all sounded good. Some early Wildhearts, some Ginger solo, some of this, some of that. They rocked!!!

Not the most articlate review, but I recommend seeing them if you can.

Support bands were Exit_International and the Hawk Eyes. Both good but preferred Exit_International; an unusual three-piece with two bass players and a drummer. They made a cracking noise, and I'm going to take a chance on their CD, Black Junk.

Pics to follow.

Uriah Heep in the ABC Glasgow and I have to say it was a great gig with Uriah playing many songs from their huge back catalogue, stand out songs for me were 'The Wizard',Steelin,Gypsy,July Morning,Lady In Black.
They played two new songs from the new Album 'Into The Wild' that sounded good and the crowd enjoyed it which rubbed off on the band who responded in kind.
It was also great to see my favorite bass player Trevor Bolder on stage who never missed a beat, (wish he'd gorw them sideburns again) but the whole band where realy on their game so made for a great wee night out.
Its only the second gig I have attended in there and I have to say that they have the sound system perfected and Uriah sounded great because of it, just a thought maybe Ian should play this venue next year as the sound is great and its a good size too.

Last tim eI saw them , 2 thoughts to take away

Mick Box seemed to steal the show - he had the ability to just come forward at the right moment and play a very simple riff or even one thunderous chord and appear to be the best guitarist in the business (obviously actually not)

The singer ( cant remember his name now) seemed to be totally the opposite in that he was forever playing to the front of the audience with all the theatrics in the book and creamin' every minute as though it was he and not David Byron that otriginally laid down that stuff i n the first place.

I might just have a soft spot for Mick Box as he was one of those "rock stars" who got off their arse and came to the MTH Hammersmith reunion gigs.

I like Heep.
When I've seen them Mick Box always looks happy just to be playing, and seeing Trevor Bolder is great anytime.

I never even knew the Heep were playing and I used to be in the fan club, got stuff signed from Trevor Bolder. The singer is Bernie Shaw and I think he is brilliant.
