I was wondering if anyone could tell me who actually owns the Gatwick express? I can't find this information anywhere and it seems a bit of a mystery to me as to why.

I think the train is the best form of transport and was looking at a tour on the Royal scotsman for next year, then I saw the prices of 5000 to 8000 pounds for a 5 day trip and thought feck it, I will pass on this.

CRFM,

I believe that Gatwick Express as a separate entity was dissolved and no longer exists. What is now named the "Gatwick Express" is really just a train route offered by Southern that provides roughly the same service that Gatwick Express used to.

You appear to be missing the point, rgw.

According to a Which investigation, purchasing train tickets has become so complex and hard to understand that few consumers actually know what they are buying.

I do agree that the overall system is far too complex. But in this case the bloke thought he could buck the system - he has a students railcard which lets him have certain priviledges at certain times. Even people without railcards klnow that you cannot get a cheap return if you travel during the rush hour times (I think in his case he needed to travel before 10.00.)

Very simply, if he wants to try to get away with it, fine, but then he should take the consequence - including getting thrown off the train.

But it wasn't the train staff that threw him off the train - it was a member of the public. Tough as it may seem, we're not allowed to "help" the train staff in that way.

I don't see how "highly educated" the passengers intelligence has to do with anything.

I agree that the fare structure is highly complex and seems in some cases to be designed to catch people out - sometimes it's almost impossible to know if you're on the right sort of train (muffled announcements over the train's tannoy that certain tickets aren't valid don't help). My point was that if I was travelling from (say) Reading to Slough and back I would expect one ticket to say 'from Reading to Slough' and the other to say 'from Slough to Reading'. It doesn't take b****y Einstein to check that.

It would be interesting to hear the train staff's view of what happened or even the accounts from the other passengers

Sod the student fare dodger. I'm more interested in Zionist agression against the peace loving Nazis. Can we get back to the Belgian assault on the Panzers and the holiday camps which German soldiers set up in Auschwitz-Birkenau, Bergen-Belsen and Buchenwald for Jewish orphans:

I go away for a couple of days to return and find that Hitler was a sex god  . Israel declared war on Germany. The Russians also Blitzkrieged Poland and that Hitler really didn’t want a war. I’ve probably not read how Norway attacked Germany supported by the Danes, Dutch, Belgian, North Africans etc etc

Next we’ll be told that the Japanese didn’t really starve British POWs and that it was the British who went on hunger strike

I believe the Zionist aggression has now been targeted on the banks and financial institutions around the world and the rush to purchase gold and the dollar has sent the currencies into meltdown.
This has caused the price of metal to be extremely high and the Panzers are being melted down to pay off debts incurred by those nations who borrowed against banks who took out mortgages with the so-called trailer-trash.
The holiday camps have been cancelled at late notice and they have been replaced with political talks by this fella and the orphans have been found a safe place to live and play,up in Scotland, where there has been a huge saving of money because people kept all their money under the floorboards as they didn't trust the banks and there is a huge clawback of that money as it wasn't given over to council tax at the due time.

There is also a happy ending to this story with no use of that naughty conspiracy word

There.I hope that puts everyone in the picture.

Stop picking on hitler youth C/R. He's busy playing with his Christmas toys.
Santa brought him a nice shiny new holocaust denial kit because he'd worn the old one out.

Whether or not the people of England are following the diet advice of c.r. there has been a large number of deaths over the past few days as a result of stabbings.
The inept/inactive coalition government, full of bleeding heart liberals, have failed the country since taking office and the
courts do what they like so the country suffers.

Let us not forget the Labour Party. Not content with costing the public for the Dome white elephant,we now have the Olympic Games costing the taxpayer a mere fortune.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has agreed to pay £41million towards the opening and closing ceremonies for London 2012, a bill that was supposed to be entirely paid by the Games’s privately-funded organising committee.
The £41million of public money will double the budget for the opening and closing ceremonies to more than £80million. You couldn’t make it up.

And don't forget that after the budget for the olympics was originally agreed, they went back to the Government and said sorry , we got it a bit wrong, we need a few more billion...and they got it. So when they now talk about "coming in within budget" the real question is "which budget? "

I am no defender of New Labour, but actually, the Dome was originally conceived under John Major's Conservative government. Blair adopted the Tory plans, along with almost all its other ideas and policies, and ran with it lining the pockets of themselves and their corporate friends. Blair continued the mad policies of destroying manuafacturing industry and making us reliant on ethereal financial and service industries which Thatcher initiated. That's why we're in the shi t we're in.
