Still in Bowie mode - The Platinum Collection.
Like many of these 3xCD sets (Queen and Roxy/Ferry spring to mind) the first CD is awesome, the second very good with a few weaker songs, and the third ... well you need to cook a few onions to go with all the tripe.

Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
Still digging out early Bowie; very early this time - The Deram Anthology 66-68 (£1.95 off amazon).
With the exception of the embryronic Space Oddity I have most of this lot on vinyl (Images 66-67, World Of, and various Decca/Deram reissues) but haven't heard them for about 35 years. I probably like the songs better now than I did then because I'm listening to them properly instead of thinking "This isn't Ziggy". By and large, they're still very twee, but with hints of what was to follow.

Not necessarily "not Ziggy" but more "too much Anthony Newly" G

Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
just been listening to Ronnie Wood's radio programme from last night. The first time I have heard one which is the full recording from which they took the tv show from. This one was with Slash as guest and the difference is that on the radio (one hour programme) you hear the whole of every track whereas on tv you hear (and see) all the chat but obly the beginning and end of each track. The tv programme is only hour hour so something has to go - but isn't the whole thing about the music?
Great programme by the way.

Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
Bowie - Christiane F.
Another cheap second hand pick-up from amazon. Probably about 30 years since I listened to my bootleg vinyl version but it all sounds very fresh. Again, nothing like Ziggy, but drawn from some of Bowie's more austere offerings between 1976 and 1979 to create a fairly harrowing but excellent soundtrack; lots of highlights, but the outstanding song is Heroes/Helden, with Bowie delivering a powerful vocal partly in English and partly in German. Very impressive stuff from the Thin White Duke.

Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
Mick, told you so
Now halfway through This Is PIL, first thoughts are that it is more experimental than the last three PIL albums but not as out there (& sometimes crap) as the earlier albums. So far so good & I always enjoy Lydon's voice
