I would rather have my testicles ripped off by an angry wife and sown back on by a blind drunk doctor than have any participation in this. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/2 ... weird-news

 Re: THE WTF? THREAD
Who said that everybody pays their fair way regarding taxes?
Formula One drives its tax rate down to 5pc Formula One has managed to drive its effective tax rate down to below 5pc on annual profits of nearly $500m (£319m) thanks to HM Revenue and Customs allowing interest on a series of loans made between group companies to be tax deductible.
F1's tax rate hovers between 3pc and 5pc, giving it a tax bill of around $14m on Ebitda, which came to $474m last year. Photo: AFP By Christian Sylt and Caroline Reid9:20PM BST 26 May 20128 Comments The tax details of F1, whose largest shareholder is CVC Capital, have come to light through its preparations for the forthcoming flotation of the business on the Singapore stock exchange. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and UBS are the joint lead book-runners on the IPO, which is expected to value the business at $10bn. Its low tax rate is one of its selling points. F1's rate hovers between 3pc and 5pc, giving it a tax bill of around $14m on earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda), which came to $474m last year. This is despite its key revenue-generating company, Formula One World Championship (FOWC), being located in the UK along with another 13 of the 30 companies in the group. Its tax rate is down to a complex, but perfectly legitimate, loan structure which HMRC has agreed to. F1's turnover was up 6pc to $1.5bn in 2011 and FOWC makes the lion's share of it. This includes around $510m from race promoter fees as well as $490m from TV rights. The remainder is divided between other UK and offshore companies. RELATED ARTICLES Trio acquire F1 shares 23 May 2012 Ecclestone prepares $10bn F1 flotation 18 Mar 2012 F1 flotation plans stir up anger 18 Mar 2012 The UK-based companies pay corporation tax, but their bill is minimised thanks to a series of loans they have taken out from their offshore counterparts in the F1 group. There are several billion dollars of intra-group loans and HMRC allows the interest on them to be tax deductible. The interest typically comes to around $800m which cuts the tax bill of the UK-based companies and pushes many of them into a paper loss. Since F1's ultimate parent, Delta Topco, is based in Jersey, that too pays a low tax rate. When F1 is listed, it will show a positive bottom line since each share comes "stapled" with the beneficial interest in the intra-group loan notes, which offsets the interest charged to the UK companies. HMRC has come under scrutiny recently for doing deals with large businesses including Vodafone and Goldman Sachs, whose London arm only paid £4.1m in corporation tax to the Treasury last year despite making pre-tax profits of £1.92bn. In 2010, the most recent year from which complete data is available, the eight F1 teams that are based in the UK paid no corporation tax. However, along with F1 itself, they are a significant engine for the economy and employ around 4,000 people. CVC declined to comment.
