I'm going to see Waters in July at Yankee Stadium. My daughter was mad at me for not taking her last year to the arena show, so I'm taking her to this one as a graduation gift. She loves Pink Floyd and the Wall. I kind of wish we had gone to the indoor one though.

I did not like The Wall when it first came out because it sounded obtuse and made no sense. I really didn't appreciate it until the last ten years when I finally and really understood what Waters was saying. I still don't like the studio version because it sounds lifeless and flat, but the live version is much more to my liking (however I have a preference for live albums over studio albums anyway).

There is a $100 difference between the San Francisco and LA ticket prices for The Wall. I would have expected LA to charge more but I suspect Silicon Valley has a lot to do with it. I bought my ticket for LA the first day they were offered for sale. For San Francisco, like 90% of all my concert tickets I buy just before the show because the best seats go up for sale at a fraction of their original offering price. Many of the tickets sold within 2 days of the show are premium fan tickets offered for as much as $1200 with a signed 8x10, a lam, and tee shirt and sometimes a meet and greet. I'm not going to pay a premium price to meet anyone, unless it is for a charity event that I believe in and support.

Two people who deserved to be flayed, tared and feather, and drawn and quartered for ticket prices are Mick Jagger and Irving Azoff. Jagger for realizing that Ticketmaster only charged $2 and another over $2 the band gets without the promoter taking a cut. He also pioneered scalping by scalping the Stones tickets for 10 times face value through a Toronto bus company that was used as a front by the Stones. I like the Stones but I really have to look beyond Jagger's greed sometimes so I don't get too jaded.

Irving Azoff, I have nothing good to say about his business practices. yeah, the Eagles, Jackson Brown, Warren Zevon, and Fleetwood Mac will praise him for boosting their careers in the 70s, but his business tactics were nothing less than organized crime. The only reason that piece of dead scum isn't in jail is because of his longstanding friendship with another piece of dead turd scum known as Ronald Reagan. It was Reagan who kept the Dept of Justice from prosecuting Azoff and his racketeering during the MCA years. And he is directly responsible for Ticketmaster scalping their own tickets through front companies depriving fans of tickets to see their favorite artist. Azoff should have been investigated and thrown in prison 30 years ago.

I saw Keith Richards light up and smoked a cigarette at the O2 the day after London outlawed smoking in concert venues. The next day he light up and ate the cigarette. The final show he said he was giving up smoking because its bad for his health.

Seeing the Wall in a stadium may be more impressive than seeing the arena show. When the show begins and see the stage light up you'll understand why it will be more impressive. The Wall is a multimedia show and not so much a concert where you watch the band play.

As for the show this Saturday in LA, per Roger Waters, Nick Mason will be at the show. However, he did not say or imply he would play or a reunion of any kind will take place. He also stated he would like one last Pink Floyd tour but Gilmore is the holdout on that idea. Fans are speculating there will be a reunion and I'm not holding my breath or hoping for one. Personally, I don't think anything will happen. I do suspect the show will be recorded.

When I said "you lost me", I didn't mean that I didn't understand what you were talking about. I simply meant that I don't have a frame of reference because I don't buy tickets to those sorts of shows.



90% of the tickets I buy are at venues that do not have seats. But I know what you are talking about; when the promoter releases production holds you can get some very good seats that were held back for guests lists and VIP packages.



IMHO if you are buying tickets for shows that can vary by $100 between venues, you are paying premium prices whether you meet anyone or not.

BTW, Foxy Shazam will be playing the Bumbershoot festival the next day after Ian. If you go you should stay an extra day.

personally I like to go to rock gigs to hear some decent music, particularly when the power of that music gets right inside of you. I don't go to "shows".

I see from the reviews that Alejandro has changed his guitar player and drummer. Did you ever seen AE in the past with David Pulkingham and Hector Munoz, and can you draw a comparison?

Justin -- Gotta confess I didn't make it to this gig, but thought folks would be interested in the review. Will get the scoop from a bud who did and report back (assuming this doesn't get me permanently barred from this thread). Have seen Alejandro at least a dozen times dating back to '97 or '98 or so when he started gigging here regularly. Every one of these gigs included Hector Munoz on drums and it is hard to imagine Al without him. Really a "force of nature" kind of drummer. More on that here (at least as of May, 2012):

I guess 3 0r 4 of the gigs included David Pulkingham, an extermely versatile and talented guitarist. Wouldn't consider him part of the genetic make up of Al's band like Hector, however.

Have heard an advance of the new CD. Doesn't rock out to the extent of the last two. A CD one must live with for a while. The fave that jumped out at me should satisfy Zimmyphiles everywhere: "Bottom of the World."

I never thought he seemed comfortable on the harder rock stuff. He seemed much better suited to playing with the strings.



When I saw Alejandro open for Los Lonely Boys a year or two ago, he said pretty much the same thing about Hector when he was introducing the band.

Talked to my friend who saw Alejandro with his revamped band. While the show was not a long one, the report was that it was strong and that the new guitarist was more geared to Al's more rockin' stuff. New drummer reportedly good as well. Gotta check it out, because Hector on a good night could bring on the Bonzo...

however, he was worth the wait for 2 hours of an incredible back catalogue including the Wilburys Handle With Care.
the band were tight, TP was cool and precise, the sound quality was possibly the best i've ever experienced.

Same band but in Cork last night - excellent gig, I had hoped for a great gig and it exceeded all expectations.
Mike Campbell is a great guitarist, plays what is needed for the song, not what is needed for his ego.
My first time seeing Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers but hopefully not the last.
