Re: What are you listening to? PART 5
Some new ones already purchased locally in recent weeks:
The Lil' Band O' Gold - Plays Fats. Great selection of covers of Fats Domino songs - including guest spots by Robert Plant, Lucinda Williams, Jimmy Barnes and Tim Rogers from You Am I.
Levon Helm - Take Me To The River 19780-1982. Compilation of two of his earlier solo albums, one of which ironically was produced by Donald 'Duck' Dunn.
Justin Townes Earle - Nothing's Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now. More a Memphis soul sound on this one. As with his last a bit short on playing time which just leaves you wanting more.
Vika & Linda - Live 2011. The two half-Australian / half Tongan sisters singing a few of their own songs, a few gospel covers and a beautiful version of Springsteen's 'If I Should Fall Behind'.
And I am looking forward to my latest orders from Amazon UK and USA of the following which are en-route as we speak:
Levon Helm - Ramble At The Ryman. Both the live CD and the live DVD.
It's pretty hard to watch the attached clip without a tear in your eye and a chill in your spine. His passion and spirit just shine through.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJMMUZOq3OU I so regret not being able to make it over to the US east coast late last year for the Ian Hunter shows in New York. Because I would have gone and seen one of Levon's Ramble shows in his barn while I was over there as well.
Alejandro Escovedo - Big Station.
Chuck Prophet - Temple Beautiful. Another act I've got interested in due to recommendations on this site.
Chuck Prophet - Let Freedom Ring. As above.
Chuck Prophet - Soap And Water. As above.
The Nerves - One Way Ticket. Compilation from this seminal power-pop / rock act featuring Peter Case, Paul Collins and Jack Lee and the original version of 'Hanging On The Telephone'.
Old Crow Medicine Show - Carry Me Back. Latest CD from this fantastic contemporary bluegrass band.
Free - Wishing Well. The Collection. Great value 2CD compilation and a long overdue purchase.
Various Artists - Louisiana Sounds 1953 - 1960. Double CD compilation of Louisiana music from the 50's and 60's.
And three concert DVD's:
Bryan Ferry - The Bete Noire Tour.
Sparks - Live In London.
Sparks - Lil' Beethoven. Live In Stockholm.
That lot should keep me going for a month or two until Mr. Hunter's new release.
