Ian Hunter, 1986: 'In the old days, Roy used to be on these TV shows in England called Drumbeat and Oh Boy. In England at the time, it was all Cliff Richard and Adam Faith going wha-ha-ha-ho, real wimp stuff. But Roy really had it down. I liked Sutch; I liked Johnny Kidd and the Pirates. I liked heavy bands, bands that knew how to play and how to sing, and Roy had this great voice. It was a real buzz to finally work with Roy, because I'd admired him from afar for a long time.'
'The original idea was that I was just along for the ride. It just kind of developed into two separate shows, which is what it is now. I knew it would be a great band, because Roy wouldn't play with people who weren't any good. That was one of the reasons I wanted to go. I didn't know it would be as good as it is, but I knew it would be good. It's the usual lineup plus three horns. I could never afford them! Now I'm doing songs that we used brass on in the studios, rather than songs that were more guitar-based. We've got a very good guitar player, but if you got brass why not use it, you know?'
